Where do I start? Well I am married with five children, and yes I did say five! And my big little dream started about 5 years ago. We live in a cramped maisonette in the East Midlands and 5 years ago we only had three small children. So one day I decided I was going to grow some veg on my balcony nothing too much just some peas and tomatoes. I went out and got some bits and bobs.
Now please bear in mind my last experience of gardening of any sort was running hysterically away from my mum in the garden after seeing a worm!! (about twenty years ago).
I also have a huge fear of slugs and come to grand conclusion that gardening on my balcony would overcome all these obstacles. So off I tottered to the shops kids and money in tow and picked out some healthy little specimens.
The rest is history really. The following year the crop grew from tomatoes and peas to some strawberries and herbs and carrots as well, infact my lil old balcony proved to be rather productive. Actually truth be told I started running out of space. My balcony turned into an over grown garden in no time and I couldn't really enjoy sitting out there picking the straws as I so dreamed of. That's when my little dream got a bit bigger!
One day on my trip to the plant shop for some potatoes I noticed an allotment a few minutes drive from where I live so I took the number and contacted them straight away. Within a week I went to view some plots. One was completely overgrown, so that was a no no, one was too small, I actually felt like Goldilocks! Until there she was number 151.
Slightly overgrown but the idea of having five fruit trees topped it for me and excited I signed the papers and got my keys! It was a blessing really as now the waiting list is about three years on this site.
It has been tough some good years and some bad but the plot is my little haven from the world. The kids come and dig some mud eat some veg and fruit and hubby comes up with his laptop and laughs at me but I don't mind love him anyway!
And so I dream of big things, I love making stuff and make my own creams and lotions using herbs and things off the plot, making jams and chutneys, stews and all. I would love some chickens but only when we move so I can keep a close eye on them!
Oh yes and one whole growing season without a gap!
Like I said Such A Big Little Dream!!!
